BarCamp Tampa Bay 2009

Thursday, October 1st, 2009 by rchaube

As I settle down to ink my day at the “creme-de-la-unconference” of the year, I am looking for words that can contain my enthusiasm, tether the free spirit that runs amok at the BarCamps, and still capture the essence of what was a day replete with fun, sharing, networking, learning, and being involved with shaping the future of information technology (IT).

Sept 26th & 27th, Barcamp TampBay (BTB) at the  USF, College of Business (COB), among other things, saw the “geek” and the “chic” coalesce. Yes, you read it right! There were attendees with belly T-shirts, colored hair, Louis Vuittons and I think they didn’t look one bit out of place, given that this was like a weekend getaway.  Still thinking about colored hair? Day 1 was Developer’s Day and day 2 was Media May (which is less technical and I did not attend).  Early Saturday Sept 26, I drove  to Tampa, got lost a few times on Fowler Avenue, thanks to electronic navigation, but overall did not have too much trouble finding the Sun Dome parking lot next to USF COB. Welcome is always warm at Barcamps with a flurry of familiar faces going, “Whats happening Ritesh?”, “How’ve you been Mr. Chaube?”. (more…)

It was a pleasure to connect with Central Florida’s IT professionals in a casual environment at the Ember Social Tavern on September 9th. Thanks to Central Florida IT Society (CFITS)  http://www.cfits.org who allowed us the opportunity to sponsor this Happy Hour event!

Atlantic.Net Sponsors the Internet And Technology Summit

Thursday, August 27th, 2009 by jrossiter

Atlantic.Net sponsored the 2009 Internet and Technology Summit held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Tampa, Florida on Tuesday August 25th.  The event was a great opportunity for us to network with technology professionals from Central Florida. It was a great venue to showcase our product information, distribute white papers on “Managed Server Hosting” and “How to Choose a Data Center”.

Atlantic.Net continues to chart out an aggressive agenda for 2009-2010 and looks forward to working with all of the new partners that we have met at events such as these in the coming months.

Atlantic.Net on SaaS at CFITS

Friday, June 12th, 2009 by rchaube

June 4th 2009 was special for many reasons, one of them being the Central Florida Information Technology Society (CFITS) lunch meeting event at the Cisco facility on Research Parkway.

It was a hot day (Hello Florida in June!) and the drive was long, but catching up with Adnan and William, it seemed like we got there in no time.

Big thanks to CFITS for recognizing the leadership of Atlantic.net as a strategically and financially sound vendor for SaaS (Software as a Service) hosting deployments and choosing us to do a presentation on ‘Underpinnings of SaaS vendor selection ’ to a sizeable gathering of information technology professionals from a rich mix of local businesses. Apparently, quite a few joined us over the web to listen to the presentation in real-time over Webex.

CFIT Beginning

After a welcome and a light lunch, Cisco presented their new Webex system . Their new system is pretty cool; in fact the presenter did the presentation over the web from the West Coast. The presentation was short, and guess who was delighted? (more…)

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009 by jwieder

May 27, 2009 - Amway Arena

Another great game in the Eastern Conference Finals, and another win (116-114) for the Orlando Magic! All of us here at Atlantic.Net are truly honored to be the Official Server Host of the potential NBA champs.

Armed with our pocket protectors and Netbooks, Atlantic.Net was there to watch the game, spend some time with the fans, and provide much needed home team support.

While we were there, we decided to rub some elbows, show off a company car, and give away some free prizes with our friends at 580 AM WDBO. One lucky fan won basketball signed by the Orlando Magic players!

Earlier this year, Atlantic.Net announced a formal partnership with the Orlando Magic.  Everyone at Atlantic.Net was very excited and proud to be named the Official Server Host of the Orlando Magic and to  protect their data in our world class data center facility.

As you can imagine, all of Orlando is gearing up for the first home game of the Easter Conference Finals. It seems like everywhere you turn around town, you see “Go Magic!” signs and Godzilla sized banners of Hedo Turkoglu, Dwight Howard, and Rashard Lewis adorning the downtown skyscrapers.

As a proud partner of the Orlando Magic, we are often involved in special events with the organization. At one of the recent events, we had the opportunity to hangout and get to know our team during a fun filled night of casino games and shenanigans (more…)

Atlantic.Net sponsors Disaster Recovery Journal’s 40th conference, Spring World 2009!

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009 by Adnan Raja

Disaster Recovery Journal’s 40th conference, Spring World 2009, was held this year at Coronado Springs Resort and Convention Center, in Orlando. Atlantic.Net was an exhibit sponsor at this event for the first time.  This was a very informative event and a great networking opportunity that allowed us to put our name in front of more than 1,000 Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planners, Information Technology Managers, Consultants, Auditors, Corporate Safety and Risk Managers, and Security Managers. We were able to learn from and network with professionals from various industries like Banking and Finance, Manufacturing, Computer Service, Insurance, Health Care, Management Consulting, Communications, Government, Utilities, Retail, Transportation, Construction and Education.

It was interesting to see so many banks and financial institutions seriously involved in disaster recovery, especially since they spent so little time trying to prevent the disaster those industries are in currently :) .  We were also pleased to see the  growing awareness of comprehensive Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning within the Health Care community. BarCamp Miami 2009

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009 by rchaube

Change is good? In this case, it surely was. With barely a week to go, the location for Barcamp Miami 2009 (http://www.barcampmiami.org/) was changed from Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts to Anokha Miami. And, boy, was it good! Set amidst the trendy settings of CocoWalk & Mayfair mall, the 2009 edition drew smiling faces and eager minds from an exciting array of businesses in South Florida and startups from the West and East coast. BarCamp conferences are a great place to meet, interact and put a face to many of the familiar names in the IT circle.

Right after parking in the Cocowalk garage, I met Mark from scrapblog.com, a south Florida startup, who seemed equally confused on how to get to the venue from our parking spots. In no time, friendly organizers, a free t-shirt & wristband greeted us upon arrival. (more…)
