Health Care IT - A Decision Makers Guide to Cloud Computing and Managed Server Hosting

Thursday, July 1st, 2010 by kristina-davis

Virtualization has created new possibilities and opportunities for the health care segment of technology. Health care IT Professionals specializing in virtualization technologies are now finding more attractive and lucrative opportunities, especially with the new Health Care Reform and health care IT initiatives introduced by the new Administration.

Virtualization is the technology behind cloud computing and it makes such a pool of network resources a genuine possibility.

Managed Server Hosting:

Managed server hosting is a phrase used to describe the way a hosting plan is designed to function. Managed hosting is the better way to host your critical infrastructure, providing high security and fully redundant backup power supplies, 24/7 monitoring and access, round the clock engineers and much more. Managed hosting revolutionized the way organizations established their working presence on the Internet which  enabled them to conduct commerce online. Managed hosting handled by the Service Provider is ideal for organizations that don’t have the time, resources or operational expertise to handle server operations, applications and upkeep of their key infrastructure. Organizations that have a need for dedicated resources generally choose the managed server hosting option.

Dedicated Virtualization and the Structure of a Private Cloud:

Private cloud technologies have revolutionized the way the Internet accesses information over the Internet. Using VMware, Xen or Hyper-V, a private network is set up with an operating system that uses very little system resources.

This creates the possibility to include more than one virtual server on one physical hardware server. It creates a more efficient usage of system resources and delivers content faster than other dedicated server solutions. It’s all a matter of receiving as many resources as you need. Server A might only need one core and 3 GB of RAM to function properly, while server B might need a custom-tailored cloud hosting solution. (more…)

Five Quick Tips for Improving SQL Server Performance

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010 by jwieder

SQL Server Database Database servers are a cornerstone of modern businesses ranging from Google to 7-Eleven. When you run your credit card at a convenience or grocery store, your purchase is registered into a point of sale system backed by a database. Your credit card company registers the funds transfer into a database server containing your financial records. If you use a discount card, yet another database server comes into play. Databases enable businesses to track inventory, perform margin analysis, automate purchases, and identify customer trends—and to do all of this much more quickly and efficiently than ever before!

It has been a long time since I visited any business that did not rely on some type of database server, if only to track purchases and expenses. But I constantly communicate with businesses that lack a plan to ensure these databases function properly on an ongoing basis.

Hosting database servers at the Atlantic.Net data center helps your database remain a vital component of your business infrastructure, rather than a time-wasting black hole for IT resources.

We recently sat down with our engineering team to provide you a few tips on how we help accomplish just that: (more…)

How to choose a Cloud Provider, a fresh perspective from Web 2.0 conference 2010!

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010 by kristina-davis

Cloud computing has been steadily gaining momentum in contending with the managed server and dedicated server markets.  For some, there are serious advantages to cloud computing.  For others, there are major reservations, but this is understandable since cloud computing is still in its early phases of deployment.  For early adopters of cloud computing, there are various platform options available but a lot of confusion and hype involved as well.  One has to diligently do their homework when evaluating options.  When Atlantic.Net sponsored the Annual Web2.0 conference this year in San Francisco, cloud computing was the topic of conversation among many attendees.  Believe it or not, there were almost eight cloud hosting service providers in attendance as well as all the major server colocation and managed server hosting providers and all were showcasing their latest cloud offerings.  Even though Atlantic.Net is still beta-testing our cloud product, we are confident that our cloud will outperform and outlast most available cloud products.  (more…)

Atlantic.Net was a proud sponsor of  Disaster Recovery Journal’s (DRJ) 42nd annual conference, held March 22nd - 24th, at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida.  DRJ has been the leading publication focusing on Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) for over twenty years and holds Spring and Fall conferences on both the East and West coasts.  These conferences help to educate organizations about the importance of Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, and BC/DR certification programs.

This was our second year sponsoring Spring World and the event seems to get bigger each year!  In addition to an exhibition hall packed with companies and associations, there was an extensive line up of educational sessions and workshops ranging from How to Design a Disaster Recovery Strategy Without Breaking the Bank to Dealing with Pandemics.  There was even a workshop dedicated to addressing BC/DR Solutions in a Wireless World.

DRJ also put on one heck of a networking party following the educational and training sessions, which provided a great opportunity for attendees to socialize with other business professionals who have an interest in BC/DR and a great environment for sharing ideas and information.

Monday, February 15th, 2010 by kristina-davis

We had such a great response from the DRJ crowd that it was clear to us that this information is in high demand, so we are making it available for you too!

If you are responsible for the IT operations of a successful organization there will come a day when the closet in the back of your corporate office will no longer suffice as your data center.  You will be asked to evaluate and select a data center to serve as a business continuity or disaster recovery site for mission critical services that power your business.  The intent of this whitepaper is to provide IT professionals with the rudimentary knowledge necessary to make a well informed decision about where and how their environments need to be hosted. The Buzz on Partnerships in 2010 – How Integrators Can Increase ROI with Managed Server Hosting

Monday, January 18th, 2010 by kristina-davis

We were recently interviewed by the Redmond Magazine.  This publication has a captured an audience of IT consultants, service providers, and Microsoft Certified Partners, many of which cater to small and mid-size business clients.  They wanted to know what advice and strategies we could offer to the integrators in this complicated economic climate.  They also wanted to understand about the new pricing model for IT provider’s and their products and services.  In addition they asked if the bundling of newer products might be a good marketing strategy for 2010.  Please read the entire article published by the Redmond Magazine.

I thought it would be beneficial to share our point of view with our Channel Partners and our readers!  The economy of 2010 is not the same as that of the previous 15-20 years, which was mostly fueled by technology and real-estate bubbles.  Many businesses were thriving, not because they created value, but rather because they had been at the right place at the right time.  In the “new world economy”, that is simply not the case anymore.  Prosperity in 2010 and in the coming years is going to require the creation of new product sets with a solid value proposition.  Every decision is going to have to make perfect sense.  With businesses looking to cut costs and reduce the bottom line, IT advancements and development have become essential in enable businesses to cut their IT budget while remaining profitable.  This is in stark contrast to the last 20 years, when the business community invested in IT just to keep up with their growth. Can A Data Center Be A Hundred Percent Green?

Monday, November 16th, 2009 by kristina-davis

The term “green data center ” can be attributed to data centers that are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly. This means that green data centers should be maintained by monitoring their electrical, mechanical, electronic, and computer systems to reducing power consumption and to lessen the ecological impact. Turning a data center completely green is not as far-fetched today as it was several years ago, but it is not something that can be achieved easily. Creating a greener data center environment can be costly, difficult, and time consuming. Most existing data center facilities are taking initiatives towards greener practices by restructuring the way they utilize their power and run their power dependent infrastructure. While newly built data centers are being constructed with their environmental impact in mind, various data center operators are also taking steps to become more environmentally responsible. (more…)
