Electronic Medical Records made easy with Managed Server Hosting

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010 by jwieder

The complexity of our health care system has grown over the years making it more difficult for practitioners to stay informed about their patients health histories. Electronic Medical Records will help solve this problem. This method reduces the amount of paperwork involved in the process; while at the same time increasing access to these records by making them available electronically. EMR/EHR systems enable the practitioner to view a patient’s complete health event summary, historical reports and previous treatment records. This has resulted in an enormous gain in productivity in practices staffed with multiple physicians. The advantages are also evident in regard to patients with multiple aliments and in emergency medical situations.

With the adoption of EMR/EHR there is still plenty of room to increase operational efficiency, cost savings and productivity gains. Electronic Medical Records are gaining in popularity because of the paperless approach. At the same time this creates an effective demand for data centers to host such records in secure facilities. Secure facilities are a must due to the highly sensitive nature of the data being hosted combined with the fact that strict security procedures and practices must be maintained.

EMR can be handled in a variety of ways; some of the common methodologies are: (more…)

Electronic Medical Records in a Data Center Environment

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010 by jwieder

Physicians today are faced with many obstacles due to recent regulations created by Health Care Reform. Some practitioners are asking themselves, “How do I provide outstanding quality health care in the face of an increasingly complex regulatory system? Where am I going to find the time and resources to implement an EMR system?” Many doctors are in the precarious position of having to manage and troubleshoot complex IT, EMR and billing systems. Keeping up to date with the latest HIPAA and HITECH compliance and security requirements is expensive, time consuming, and difficult.

Atlantic.Net believes that the business of health care exists to facilitate the practice of good medicine. Efforts should be focused on and directed towards healing the sick, not managing their IT infrastructure. As physicians in the community become tasked with the technical aspect of running their practices, they are focusing less on healing the sick. With more resources becoming available to practitioners, however, the opportunities for their practice’s growth is increasing exponentially. With an increase in patients and a decreased interest in managing their data, many are considering outsourcing their EMR and other IT strategies to Service Providers in order to shift focus back onto the patient. Linux in a Data Center: From Theory to Practice

Friday, April 23rd, 2010 by kristina-davis

We were contacted by the ITT Technical Institute to help turn theory into practice for one of their classes.  We welcomed this opportunity to help educate the future Engineers of Central Florida.

We set up Daniel Poremba, Professor at the School of Information Technology, and his class of roughly twenty with Preston C, the Senior Linux Engineer at Atlantic.Net. Preston took the class on a tour of our Data Center facility and explained the significance of each component from the Colo floor to the industrial grade generator and UPS’s.  (more…)

CenturyLink Acquires Qwest - A Data Center Opportunity

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010 by Adnan Raja

CenturyLink acquiring Qwest is surprising news for the IT and Telecom Industries. For the longest time, I thought Sprint would be a good fit to merge with Qwest but I guess I was wrong!

CentruyLink surprised us all last year when they acquired Embarq, and now Qwest?  Although it eliminates consumer choices in some areas, it also makes a strong statement about a smaller company taking over one of the larger conglomerates, a statement that I personally like! (more…)

Atlantic.Net Sponsors Disaster Recovery Journal’s Spring World Orlando 2010

Friday, March 26th, 2010 by kristina-davis

Atlantic.Net was a proud sponsor of  Disaster Recovery Journal’s (DRJ) 42nd annual conference, held March 22nd - 24th, at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida.  DRJ has been the leading publication focusing on Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) for over twenty years and holds Spring and Fall conferences on both the East and West coasts.  These conferences help to educate organizations about the importance of Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, and BC/DR certification programs.

This was our second year sponsoring Spring World and the event seems to get bigger each year!  In addition to an exhibition hall packed with companies and associations, there was an extensive line up of educational sessions and workshops ranging from How to Design a Disaster Recovery Strategy Without Breaking the Bank to Dealing with Pandemics.  There was even a workshop dedicated to addressing BC/DR Solutions in a Wireless World.

DRJ also put on one heck of a networking party following the educational and training sessions, which provided a great opportunity for attendees to socialize with other business professionals who have an interest in BC/DR and a great environment for sharing ideas and information.

Atlantic.Net Dissects the Impact of Healthcare IT on the Data Center Industry at the HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) 9th Annual Conference & Exhibition

Saturday, March 6th, 2010 by kristina-davis

With the passage of Healthcare Reform by Congress, there is a lot of talk about healthcare in the IT business community.  Healthcare already accounts for about $2 trillion in federal spending each year; almost one out of every seven dollars spent in the U.S is related to healthcare.  It looks as if billions more will be funneled into the healthcare IT segment, thanks to the new federal initiatives that require health care providers to maintain medical records electronically.  This explains why almost every technology vendor out there is evaluating and exploring opportunities within the health care sector.

We sent Sam G. to the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Expo (HIMSS) in Atlanta, Georgia earlier this month to do some investigating.

HITECH Act- New HIPAA Privacy Law and the Service Providers

Monday, February 15th, 2010 by Adnan Raja

I was recently interviewed by Ms. Melanie Azam of the Orlando Business Journal for her story about the new HIPAA privacy laws taking effect on February 17, 2010, passed as part of the 2009 stimulus package.  She wrote an informative article about the new HIPAA regulations, which will affect companies that service the health care providers.

As discussed in the article, these new regulations will have a major impact on companies that deal with electronic medical health records, as they affect both the storage and safety of health-related records.  The newly passed Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act applies to the service providers and accounting, software, and law firms working with medical records and medical providers, leaving many companies scrambling to get on board with the new, more rigorous privacy laws and regulations. You asked, we answered! Choosing a Data Center Whitepaper

Monday, February 15th, 2010 by kristina-davis

We recently sent out an offer in collaboration with the Disaster Recovery Journal for a free download of our whitepaper, Choosing a Data Center . We had such a great response from the DRJ crowd that it was clear to us that this information is in high demand, so we are making it available for you too!

If you are responsible for the IT operations of a successful organization there will come a day when the closet in the back of your corporate office will no longer suffice as your data center.  You will be asked to evaluate and select a data center to serve as a business continuity or disaster recovery site for mission critical services that power your business.  The intent of this whitepaper is to provide IT professionals with the rudimentary knowledge necessary to make a well informed decision about where and how their environments need to be hosted.
