Atlantic.Net Supports Local IT Society Through Donations Of Data Center Services.

Thursday, January 28th, 2010 by jwalker

This week Atlantic.Net donated a high-end computer server to the Central Florida IT Society to help them cope with their growing needs.  CFITS has experienced tremendous growth in its membership base in the last year with almost 400 new member sign-ups!

I spoke with David Spears, Web Development Chair of CFTIS, and he was very excited about the donation.  I feel that this in-kind donation will go a long way in helping our local IT Society.  Atlantic.Net is proud to provide CFITS with the dependable network infrastructure required to support an organization of their size.

CFITS includes professionals from all areas of the central Florida technology field, from web hosting to online Internet marketing firms to Internet security experts and many more.

Atlantic.Net looks forward to further strengthening our alliance with CFITS for the betterment of our local technology community for many years to come. We couldn’t be more honored to help aid their growth and development through donations and sponsorships.

Outdoor Advertising Campaign

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 by jrossiter

While I was driving toward the airport on the way to a conference, some attractive Atlantic.Net billboards caught my eye.  I must have seen five in that drive to the airport. I thought I should at least put this in the blog and share some of the pictures and concepts with our readers!

I later sat with Adnan R. who played an instrumental role in putting this campaign together and learned a great deal. We launched a small test campaign in Orlando to highlight our server capabilities. This campaign is quite different than the one from last year’s campaign to increase awareness about our Data Center.  This year’s focus is on “Fast Servers” and we wanted to communicate how we can help businesses increase their productivity with our faaaaaaaaast servers.  Here are the five different designs you may have seen around your town:

Florida Linux Show 2009 – Orlando

Monday, October 26th, 2009 by pconnors

Atlantic.Net was a proud sponsor of the Florida Linux Show, which was held at the Radisson Resort Orlando –Celebration, October 24, 2009. What a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Open Source Software (OSS) and its wide applications. Thanks to Florida Linux Alliance for putting together such a great event!  This year’s event was prominently sponsored by RedHat, one of the most well known distribution vendors of Linux, and of course Atlantic.Net!

There were various halls reserved for presentations and for the sponsor exhibits. Speakers from a range of organizations gave very informative presentations throughout the day.  I decided to sit in on several of the sessions focusing on virtualization along with Jon L. and others.

Thursday, August 27th, 2009 by kristina-davis

Atlantic.Net sponsored the 2009 Internet and Technology Summit held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Tampa, Florida on Tuesday August 25th.  The event was a great opportunity for us to network with technology professionals from Central Florida. It was a great venue to showcase our product information, distribute white papers on “Managed Server Hosting” and “How to Choose a Data Center”.

Atlantic.Net continues to chart out an aggressive agenda for 2009-2010 and looks forward to working with all of the new partners that we have met at events such as these in the coming months.

An Introduction to Data Loss Prevention

Monday, August 17th, 2009 by jwieder

This paper serves as a primer on preventing “data loss,” an umbrella term that encompasses two distinct phenomena: system failure and network intrusion.

Firms that fail to protect their data – often proprietary customer information – not only suffer from unflattering news coverage but the often crippling expenses related to churn, Service Level Agreements and project redesign.  A good deal of the fallout from data loss can be prevented with a measure of investment that seems minute in comparison to the risks of remaining vulnerable. How To Dispose Of Old Computers And Servers

Thursday, July 9th, 2009 by kristina-davis

Several weeks ago it was decided across the board that I needed a fast computer for my daily activities here in our corporate office.  I contacted our NOC, told them what I wanted and a few days later a shiny new desktop sat atop my desk. I took care of all of the necessary transfer of data and whatnots and politely asked the guys, “So what do you want me to do with this dinosaur? Toss it?” They looked at me like I had a third eye and quickly informed me that there are “proper” ways to dispose of your computer. Gently removing it from my death grip they carried it out of my office, never to be seen again.

So there I stood, with empty hands and I began to wonder what in the world they were going to do with it. What about all of that customer data (possibly the reason they refused to leave it)? I’ve seen Forensic Files one time too many, where some ridiculously smart computer guru is able to retrieve data from a suspect’s computer, uncovering hard core evidence which implicates the suspect.  I also began to think what would happen if that information got into the wrong hands (flashback to the 1995 film The Net with Sandra Bullock).   Were they going to try to rebuild it? “Gentlemen, we can rebuild. We have the technology. …. Better than before…. Better, stronger, faster.”- anyone remember The Six Million Dollar Man ?  Since my inquiring mind and overactive imagination wanted to know, and I’m sure I am not alone, I sat down and spoke with Joe Cosmano, Director of Engineering, and Josh Simon, Director of Data Center Services, to find out what to do with old computers to ensure that they are either disposed of properly or rebuilt to become the Six Million Dollar Machine. Atlantic.Net on SaaS at CFITS

Friday, June 12th, 2009 by rchaube

June 4th 2009 was special for many reasons, one of them being the Central Florida Information Technology Society (CFITS) lunch meeting event at the Cisco facility on Research Parkway.

It was a hot day (Hello Florida in June!) and the drive was long, but catching up with Adnan and William, it seemed like we got there in no time.

Big thanks to CFITS for recognizing the leadership of Atlantic.net as a strategically and financially sound vendor for SaaS (Software as a Service) hosting deployments and choosing us to do a presentation on ‘Underpinnings of SaaS vendor selection ’ to a sizeable gathering of information technology professionals from a rich mix of local businesses. Apparently, quite a few joined us over the web to listen to the presentation in real-time over Webex.

CFIT Beginning

After a welcome and a light lunch, Cisco presented their new Webex system . Their new system is pretty cool; in fact the presenter did the presentation over the web from the West Coast. The presentation was short, and guess who was delighted? (more…)

Atlantic.Net’s Court-side Banner

Armed with our pocket protectors and Netbooks, Atlantic.Net was there to watch the game, spend some time with the fans, and provide much needed home team support.

While we were there, we decided to rub some elbows, show off a company car, and give away some free prizes with our friends at 580 AM WDBO. One lucky fan won basketball signed by the Orlando Magic players!
