Monday, October 26th, 2009 by pconnors

Atlantic.Net was a proud sponsor of the Florida Linux Show, which was held at the Radisson Resort Orlando –Celebration, October 24, 2009. What a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Open Source Software (OSS) and its wide applications. Thanks to Florida Linux Alliance for putting together such a great event!  This year’s event was prominently sponsored by RedHat, one of the most well known distribution vendors of Linux, and of course Atlantic.Net!

There were various halls reserved for presentations and for the sponsor exhibits. Speakers from a range of organizations gave very informative presentations throughout the day.  I decided to sit in on several of the sessions focusing on virtualization along with Jon L. and others.

What is Managed Server Hosting?

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 by Marty

(Technical Gauge at 0)

Managed server hosting is a new service that is the future of computing. Simply stated, managed server hosting puts together all the pieces needed to operate a computer server.

Instead of purchasing and setting up a server at your office, hiring additional staff to setup & manage and maintain the server, a managed server is located in our data center and managed by our staff of experts eliminating many of the costs, time, and effort associated with running a server.

Some examples of managed server hosting include:

Managed Server for Web Hosting allows companies to have a web site (www.yourcompany.com) available for their customers to interact with to order products & services, get more information, or get support for an already purchased product. (more…)

Atlantic.Net Completes SAS70 Data Center Compliance

Friday, October 9th, 2009 by jrossiter

Operating sophisticated data centers requires expertise and proficiency in many areas surrounding maintenance, proper controls and checks and balances. Atlantic.Net has long been serving clients that require world class infrastructure with adequate security controls in place and recently announced our SAS 70 certification. SAS 70 compliance confirms reliability, security, availability and processing integrity of our core products which include Managed Server Hosting, Dedicated Servers, and Server Colocation.

What is SAS 70 Audit?

The SAS 70 audit, or Statement on Auditing Standards (”SAS”) No. 70, was developed by the AICPA as a means of auditing and reporting on the effectiveness of operations and controls of a service provider. It is also considered an operational compliance benchmark for companies with the passage of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.   A service auditor’s examination performed in accordance with SAS No. 70 ("SAS 70 Audit") is widely recognized and represents that a service organization has been through an in-depth audit of their control objectives and control activities, which often include controls over information technology and related processes. An Introduction to Data Loss Prevention

Monday, August 17th, 2009 by jwieder

This paper serves as a primer on preventing “data loss,” an umbrella term that encompasses two distinct phenomena: system failure and network intrusion.

Firms that fail to protect their data – often proprietary customer information – not only suffer from unflattering news coverage but the often crippling expenses related to churn, Service Level Agreements and project redesign.  A good deal of the fallout from data loss can be prevented with a measure of investment that seems minute in comparison to the risks of remaining vulnerable. Armed with our pocket protectors and Netbooks, Atlantic.Net was there to watch the game, spend some time with the fans, and provide much needed home team support.

While we were there, we decided to rub some elbows, show off a company car, and give away some free prizes with our friends at 580 AM WDBO. One lucky fan won basketball signed by the Orlando Magic players!

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009 by Josh Simon

Today We officially launched our Managed Hosting Service.  I know some of you are thinking, "Wait! I thought Atlantic.Net already offered Managed Hosting!?"  If you are one of those people you would be partially correct.  We have offered add-on Managed Services for our customer’s hosting environment for many years, but never before have we included so many of our Managed Services and expert support rolled into one all encompassing package.

Our Managed Hosting service includes our Standing Ovation Customer Service (24×7x365 system administration/technical support), unlimited daily secure backup of the data on your server (yes, you read that right), security services, and much more.

To say that our staff is really excited about the roll-out of this product is an understatement. On the marketing and sales side of the house it is always a blessing to have such a feature packed product to present to potential and current customers.  Our Support and Engineering teams were extremely excited to integrate new back-end systems, test out the latest software, and refine all the processes that help ensure timely and smooth delivery of our new Managed Hosting service.  All that being said, I think the entire staff at Atlantic.Net is most excited about the potential our Managed Hosting service has to help businesses save time, money, and effort in this difficult economy. What is Dedicated Server Hosting?

Thursday, December 18th, 2008 by pconnors

A Dedicated Server is a type of web hosting where a business leases a full computer server with Internet access from a data center. Unlike a traditional computer server in an office closet, the Dedicated Server is kept in a climate-controlled data center where the network and Internet uptime are maintained by expert engineers. Business can now lease dedicated servers instead of purchasing and setting up a computer server at their office and hiring additional staff to manage and maintain the server. This allows businesses to eliminate the hassles of dealing with day-to-day server issues and focus on their business growth.

A dedicated server is far more reliable and secure than a shared hosting account which utilize shared resources between customers. A dedicated server is reserved with 100% of the resources allocated to the client. This means that no two customers will share Internet connectivity, hardware, disk space, etc.  This type of service is designed to allow 100% uptime and enterprise level clients can rest assured that the service is available to them without any compromise. Mission critical applications also require dedicated servers to be backed by sophisticated and powerful, fully redundant, infrastructure which sets data centers apart from traditional computer servers in an office environment.  The cost associated with dedicated servers varies depending upon the infrastructure deployed, but is almost always more economical than purchasing the server hardware outright and managing it internally.
