## What Is Linux VPS Hosting?

Linux VPS hosting is a hosting service designed to support Linux virtual private servers. A Linux VPS enables users to take advantage of cloud-server technology backed by redundant systems, affordably. Linux VPS hosting is a strong alternative to dedicated hosting and to on-premise physical machines because of the cost advantage with benefits like full root access and administrative server controls without incurring the costs associated with running a dedicated environment. Linux VPS hosting in the cloud is also far more powerful than traditional non-cloud VPS servers because of its speed, agility, reliability, and affordability. You can spin up a Linux VPS in under 30 seconds and pay only for what you use.

A Linux VPS is deployed via the one-click application from the Atlantic.Net cloud image library. Each Linux cloud server is available as a 32-bit or 64-bit revision, and we include multiple versions of each distribution for the broadest compatibility, with SSD storage as standard.

- Ubuntu: Ubuntu is one of the most widely deployed server distributions thanks to its intuitive defaults and broad community support.
- Rocky Linux: the modern community-driven RHEL-compatible distribution backed by some of the biggest names in the industry, providing a free, drop-in alternative for CentOS workloads.
- AlmaLinux: another community-driven RHEL-compatible distribution, with long support windows and full binary compatibility with RHEL.
- Debian: with three decades of development, Debian offers a highly tuned and reliable experience, particularly strong for containerised applications.
- Fedora: sponsored by Red Hat, Fedora pairs strong stability with the latest tooling from upstream open-source repositories.
- FreeBSD: a lightweight Unix-like server OS with high reliability and uncomplicated licensing.
- Arch Linux: a minimal, rolling-release distribution that suits users who want a hands-on, fully customised setup.
- CentOS: despite the last release being CentOS 8.5, we still offer this distribution because many customers continue to rely on it.

Contact our team to get easy access to cPanel and other providers.

### How am I billed?

You will be billed monthly on the anniversary of the date you registered for the Atlantic.Net Cloud. You will only be billed for the Linux virtual cloud servers you deploy and the data transfer used in the previous month.

For a detailed billing section in the Cloud Control Panel, navigate to **Account Info → Payment and Billings**. Here you can update your payment information and view your entire billing history.

[Please refer to our cloud server pricing section for details](https://www.atlantic.net/vps-hosting/pricing/).

### How is data transfer billed?

Inbound (ingress) data transfer is free. If the free amount of outbound data transfer included in your plan is exceeded, you pay for the additional outbound data transfer used during the billing cycle.

Unlimited inbound bandwidth. If free outbound bandwidth is exceeded, each additional GB is $0.02.

[Please refer to our cloud server pricing section for details](https://www.atlantic.net/vps-hosting/pricing/).

### Are Linux virtual servers good for web hosting?

cPanel/WHM web hosting control panels are simple point-and-click Linux virtual hosting tools that simplify management of cloud-based virtual servers. You can create unlimited email accounts, domains, and websites, a strong fit for Linux cloud VPS hosting on the ACP platform.

### What is the difference between a Cloud VPS and a dedicated server?

A Cloud VPS is a virtual server hosted on a shared platform with guaranteed system resources (CPU, disk, and memory). A dedicated host is a physical host dedicated to a single user, where the user has access to all the resources on the server.

The Atlantic.Net Cloud service offers both VPS and dedicated hosts within the same environment, so you get the benefits of either platform. The workload of a VPS varies from running websites and workstations to general-purpose cloud servers. A dedicated host is usually used for hosting a significant number of websites or apps, intensive workloads, large numbers of virtual machines, or large production databases.

Whether you choose a VPS in our public cloud or to deploy VPSes on dedicated hosts, cloud servers will be available within seconds of being deployed.

### What are the advantages of Linux VPS hosting?

With Linux VPS hosting, you have isolation from all other VPS users in our data centers, giving you guaranteed resources, high performance, and a reliable Linux cloud server plan. No matter what other customers might be doing on the server, your Linux cloud server is unaffected.

You also get full root access to the operating system, giving you complete control over the cloud server. You can install whatever applications you desire and make any configuration changes you might need.

### What is a KVM VPS?

A KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) is a cloud server backed by virtualisation directly in the Linux kernel. System resources are dedicated and shared among KVM VPSes, with isolation of CPU, disk, and memory at the hardware layer.

### Why should I choose Atlantic.Net for cloud VPS hosting?

VPS hosting offers the affordability of shared hosting with the power and performance of dedicated hosting. Shared hosting puts your server on a host with unreserved resources; a dedicated server gives you 100% access to all resources on the host. VPS strikes a balance between the two: you get the benefits of guaranteed resources on a host while still sharing the underlying hardware with other clients. If your VPS comes with 200 GB of storage and 64 GB of memory, those resources are exclusively yours, regardless of what other tenants do.

### What one-click apps do you offer on VPS hosting?

Our one-click apps are a popular feature of our virtual cloud servers. They let you automatically deploy a predefined, secure, updated instance in seconds.

Try it out at [cloud.atlantic.net](https://cloud.atlantic.net/?page=userlogin) and locate the Applications tile.

We currently offer the following one-click apps, with more being added regularly:

- LAMP on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Server 64-bit
- LEMP on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Server 64-bit
- WordPress on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Server 64-bit
- Nextcloud on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Server 64-bit
- Node.js on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Server 64-bit
- Docker on Ubuntu LTS
- cPanel/WHM on AlmaLinux
- OctoberCMS on Ubuntu LTS
- MySQL on Ubuntu LTS

### Is your Linux VPS hosting cheap?

We provide high-quality service at affordable prices. We don't claim to be the cheapest, but always-available phone support, no upfront cost, and post-paid billing keep things very affordable.
