Atlantic.Net Enters Five New Markets in Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (7/20/99) – Atlantic.Net, one of Florida’s fastest growing companies, has expanded its Internet service into five additional calling areas. Atlantic.Net’s 56K access is now available in Tallahassee, Ft Myers, Vero Beach, Palm Coast and Deland. With these additions, Atlantic.Net now has a presence in 40 locations throughout the state.

“We’re right on track,” said Marty Puranik, president and CEO of Atlantic.Net. “The launch of five new service territories makes our statewide coverage almost complete. We are proud to provide so many Florida communities with reliable and friendly Internet service and we are excited to be growing so quickly.”

Atlantic.Net dial-up accounts start at $9.95 per month; including access to the World Wide Web, electronic mail, discussion groups and other features. The Atlantic.Net software startup kit, featuring Netscape Communicator, is available for the Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh operating systems. 56K access is standard with all accounts, but the service is also compatible with older 14.4Kbps, 28.8/33.6Kbps modems as well as 64Kbps ISDN terminal adapters. 128Kbps ISDN is available for an additional monthly fee. Atlantic.Net’s business services include high-speed dedicated access, Web hosting and Web development and design.

Atlantic.Net was founded in 1994 by two University of Florida students, Marty Puranik and Jose Sanchez. After being denied Internet access through the university in 1995, Puranik and Sanchez launched one of the first commercial Internet services in Florida, serving Gainesville and Ocala. Since then, the company has been rapidly expanding its coverage areas, acquiring smaller access providers and enhancing its service offerings. Revenues have doubled every year since inception and in 1998 Atlantic.Net was recognized as one of Florida’s 100 fastest-growing private companies by UF’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. During the past six months, the company has launched service in 11 new cities and purchased the dial-up Internet subscribers, dedicated access accounts and Web hosting clients of three Internet access companies. By the end of 1999, Atlantic.Net’s network is expected to span nine states in the southeastern United States.
