Cloud Backups

Data is the lifeblood of modern businesses, and safeguarding it has never been more important. Cloud backups offer a technical solution for protecting critical data from unexpected events like hardware failures. Modern backup solutions use the cloud's scalability and accessibility to ensure data remains secure and readily available for recovery, minimizing downtime and potential losses.

Backups are an essential part of everyday IT operations. Atlantic.Net offers class-leading backup and replication services to a wide range of clients. Using our cloud infrastructure, our managed backups are fast, robust, and fault-tolerant ‐ with proven reliability and near-zero resource overhead.

Automated schedules and seamless integration with existing systems let businesses maintain up-to-date backups without disrupting operations ‐ enhancing data protection, optimizing IT resources, and reducing operational costs.

What Are Cloud Backups?

Cloud backups involve creating copies of data and storing them securely on a disk-based remote server, accessible via the internet. The backups serve as a safety net, letting businesses restore information to a previous point in time in case of data loss or corruption. Unlike traditional backups that rely on physical media, cloud backups offer enhanced scalability, accessibility, and cost-effectiveness.

For additional protection, backups can be copied to multiple locations to add redundancy in the event of a catastrophic failure.

Backup Frequency

These frequencies enable our service to meet and exceed stringent Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO). The result is an agile, quick response to any urgent recovery scenario.

Our backup technology is highly configurable, and the snapshot-based backup runs automatically on a predefined schedule.

The standard service offering is set at:

  • 5 Minutes ‐ recommended for priority-one servers
  • 15 Minutes ‐ recommended for business-critical systems
  • Hourly ‐ commonly used for file servers or application servers
  • Daily ‐ for low-priority servers such as workstations or terminals

File-Level Recovery

File-Level Recovery

File-level recovery is included with all of our cloud server backups at no additional cost. It lets you recover individual files from a selected backup instead of restoring the full system from a point-in-time backup.

Full System Restore

Full System Restore

Full system restore is included with all of our cloud server backups at no additional cost. Restore your entire Cloud Server to the point-in-time of the selected backup with the click of a button.

Off-Site Backups

Off-Site Backups

Off-site snapshot backups are available at all of Atlantic.Net's data center locations. Choose which off-site location your data is transferred to and stored within.

Transferring backups off-site creates a number of advantages: it allows for disaster recovery in unforeseen circumstances. If your systems are struck by a disaster, the data can be rapidly redeployed in a disaster recovery service ‐ meeting and usually exceeding your RTO and RPO requirements.

Replication

Replication

Atlantic.Net offers snapshot replication services that take your disaster recovery plan to the next level. Our cloud platform snapshot replication service replicates your cloud VPS to one or more failover computing nodes so you can recover quickly in the event of unforeseen issues.

Nodes can be in the same data center or in another remote data center location. This flexibility offers a unique high-availability scenario. The frequency at which snapshot replication refreshes the data is configured to the same standards as our snapshot backups.

Achieving Mission-Critical Business Objectives with Cloud Backups

Cloud backups play a pivotal role in meeting mission-critical business objectives. By safeguarding data against loss and corruption, cloud backups ensure business continuity, minimizing downtime and financial repercussions. The ability to quickly restore data to a previous state lets organizations recover from disruptions seamlessly ‐ maintaining productivity and customer satisfaction.

RPO and RTO and Their Benefits to Businesses

Recovery Point Objective (RPO) defines the maximum acceptable amount of data loss in the event of a disruption; Recovery Time Objective (RTO) outlines the targeted timeframe for restoring operations. Cloud backups let businesses fine-tune RPO and RTO, aligning them with their specific needs. Minimizing data loss and downtime safeguards revenue streams, preserves brand reputation, and supports compliance with regulatory requirements.

How Atlantic.Net Cloud Helps Hit Your RPO and RTO Targets

Frequently Asked Questions About Cloud Backups

RPO (Recovery Point Objective) is the maximum acceptable amount of data loss measured in time ‐ how far back the recovered data can be from the moment of failure. RTO (Recovery Time Objective) is the maximum acceptable downtime between an outage and the application being available again. Backup frequency drives RPO; the recovery architecture (warm standby, hot failover, cold restore) drives RTO.

Atlantic.Net's standard offering supports four tiers: 5-minute (for priority-one servers), 15-minute (business-critical systems), hourly (file/app servers), and daily (workstations and terminals). All run on a predefined snapshot schedule with near-zero resource overhead.

File-level recovery (restore individual files from any backup point) and full system restore (one-click point-in-time restore of the entire Cloud Server) are both included with all cloud server backups at no additional cost.

Off-site snapshot backups are available across Atlantic.Net's eight global data center locations. You choose the destination region for your off-site copy ‐ useful for satisfying the 3-2-1 backup rule and for accelerating disaster recovery if your primary region is disrupted.

Backup creates point-in-time copies you can roll back to. Replication keeps a near-live mirror of a workload on one or more failover nodes, so when the primary fails the secondary can take over quickly. Atlantic.Net offers both, and most production environments use them together: replication for fast failover, backup for point-in-time rollback or compliance retention.
