Gainesville, FL (2/11/02) – Atlantic.Net, one of the nation’s fastest-growing companies and most reliable Internet Service Providers, is pleased to announce for the fourth year in a row that it has been named one of Florida’s fastest-growing private companies. Atlantic.Net is number 22 on the Florida 100 list for 2001. Last year the company was number 11, jumping from number 15 in the 1999 listing and number 79 in the 1998 listing.
The Florida 100 is an annual program organized by the University of Florida’s Warrington College of Business Administration and Fisher School of Accounting to identify and honor Florida’s one hundred highest growth firms. Recipients must meet four requirements to be eligible: be an independent, privately held corporation or proprietorship, but not a subsidiary or division; show a three-year sales history with an increase over the three year period; have sales of more than $100,000 in fiscal 1998; and be headquartered in the state of Florida.
Atlantic.Net was founded in 1994 by two University of Florida students, Marty Puranik and Jose Sanchez, who started the company by selling computers. After being denied Internet access through the university in 1995, Puranik and Sanchez launched one of the first commercial Internet services in Gainesville and nearby Ocala. Today Atlantic.Net serves businesses and consumers throughout the nation, offering broadband, telecommunications, e-commerce, Web solutions and dial-up Internet access. In October, Inc. magazine named Atlantic.Net the nation’s 223rd fastest-growing private company, up from number 350 last year. Over the past seven years, Atlantic.Net has acquired 13 Internet service companies and augmented its e-business services to include true private networks, fractional T-1 through DS-3 connectivity, DSL and ISDN access, Web hosting and Web design. Atlantic.Net’s staff has grown to more than 100 employees.
