GAINESVILLE (June 22, 1998) — Atlantic.Net: Internet Connect Company, Inc., one of Florida’s most popular Internet service providers, is pleased to announce that 56K Internet access is now available to subscribers in both the Leesburg and Mount Dora calling areas.
The Atlantic.Net Internet service is available for the first time in Mount Dora, Eustis, and Tavares.
Users with 56K-compatible modems will be able to access Web pages and use other Internet utilities at nearly twice the speed of a standard 28.8Kbps modem, at no additional cost.
“People in smaller communities like Leesburg and Mount Dora will benefit from the 56K technology the most, ” says Atlantic.Net president and CEO Marty Puranik, “Because the digital modems overcome many of the technical deficiencies found in rural phones lines, which normally result in slow connection speeds and unexplained disconnects for Internet users.”
Customers already using 56K modems will see an immediate improvement in connection speeds, others will notice more reliable connections due to the clarity of the digital signal. And because it is a digital service, customers may also use dial-up 64Kbps ISDN terminal adapters to access the Internet at higher speeds for the same monthly fee. Dial-up 128Kbps ISDN access is also available for an additional charge.
In 1995, two University of Florida students launched one of North Florida’s first commercial Internet services, Atlantic.Net. Over its first seven years, Atlantic.Net acquired 13 Internet service companies and augmented its e-business services to include long-distance services, dial-up, broadband, web solutions, fractional T-1 through DS-3 connectivity, DSL, and ISDN access, Web hosting, Web design, and e-commerce. Atlantic.Net’s staff has grown to more than 100 employees and has been recognized both Nationally and in Florida as one of the fastest-growing private companies.
