Atlantic.Net Opens Data Center in Orlando

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (2/6/03) – Atlantic.Net (, Florida’s largest privately held Internet service provider, today announced the company has opened a data center in Orlando, Fla. The facility, located at 440 W. Kennedy Blvd., will serve as the hub of Atlantic.Net’s network operations and will be the company’s second largest employee base in Florida.

“Our new data center is one of the premier colocation facilities in central Florida,” said Marty Puranik, president and chief executive officer of Atlantic.Net. “The center rounds out the total package Atlantic.Net provides its business customers — a complete suite of the highest-quality business solutions, backed by superior technology and responsive customer service. The data hub also allows us to bring a higher level of data services to the Orlando area, so businesses are no longer forced to look elsewhere in the U.S. to find a world-class facility to secure the information that is critical to their business.”

“For us, this step is the culmination of our efforts this past year to introduce ourselves to central Florida and prove our commitment to serving the Orlando community,” Puranik said. “The center is a physical representation of the caliber of service Atlantic.Net has provided to residents and business customers for the past nine years. When customers visit this impressive facility, they’ll be able to see for themselves what Atlantic.Net is all about.”

Built in 2000 at a cost of $14.5 million, the 25,000-square-foot facility combines sophisticated technology infrastructure with high-end hosting services to meet customers’ advanced online business needs. Among the numerous advancements in the facility are locking colocation cabinets, chain link cages and roof rights for antenna systems, as well as a state-of-the-art network operations center, a conference room and offices for Atlantic.Net staff.

Atlantic.Net’s data center is secured 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Biometric palm scanners and proximity card readers control access to the facility and the colocation floor. The property is monitored via closed circuit digital cameras with 24-hour recording and 30-day digital video storage. Advanced monitoring devices constantly check the facility’s critical systems, and a VESDA air-sampling system and dry-pipe pre-action system provide zoned fire detection and suppression.

Redundant AC/DC power and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems ensure that customer equipment is up and running even in the event of an extended utility failure. In addition, the center’s two-megawatt generator can run the entire site at full load for at least 24 hours without refueling. Environmental controls include heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems that regulate temperature and humidity throughout the facility.

“The addition of the new data center in Orlando strengthens our presence in a significant market for technology and e-business,” said Cameron Clayton, director of sales and marketing. “As is our focus with all of our business solutions, we will continue to do our best to assist our customers with streamlining their hosting operations and eliminating the need to integrate multiple platforms and vendors, all in order to give them an edge in a very competitive marketplace.”

Atlantic.Net’s data center is a “carrier neutral” facility, offering access to a variety of major service providers including Level 3 Communications, Time Warner Telecom, BellSouth, Progress Telecom, FPL FiberNet, Sprint, WorldCom and Cable & Wireless. In addition, customers can connect to Atlantic.Net’s own Cisco Powered Network, featuring multiple redundant connections to the Internet backbone.

Headquartered in Gainesville, Fla., Atlantic.Net began establishing a presence in Orlando last year when the company opened an office in Maitland and was the first Internet service provider to introduce high-speed dial-up to the central Florida area. Last fall, Atlantic.Net doubled its local sales force and added a sales manager to the company’s growing Orlando team. Recently, Atlantic.Net was named the top Internet service provider in the Orlando Business Journal’s Book of Lists 2003.
